Being a teen mom has become to tradition in my family.

I was waiting for my mom to pick my friend and me up. Once she arrived, I notice how upset she was as I was sitting in the back with my friend. I asked her why she was so upset about. She had just found out my aunt, her seventeen year little sister, got pregnant from her boyfriend who was older than her by ten years or so. My aunt had just been with the man for a couple months. My mom thought he could pass off as her dad. She believed it was my grandma’s fault for allowing my aunt to be going out so much while my cousin was visiting.

It was upsetting to me too. They had the hope of her becoming the first in their family to graduate high school and go on to college to have a career of her own. A career in which could give her money to better herself. They all believed she was going to be more than just to be a teen mom.

At that moment she called my aunt, her older sister, and began to talk about the shocking news. She began to tell her how she wanted nothing to do with it because she wanted her little sister to feel the disappointment, she had caused the family. My aunt wasn’t like my mother, she felt as if she needed to support her little sister during this hard moment.

Unlike her, my mother wanted to have her pay the consequences. She wanted to make her do what to them was right. Marrying the man and to live with him. To them you are to be married a virgin and live with the man who is to be the only man in your life father of your children. My mother and aunt were married before becoming pregnant. It was frown upon for a woman to be a single mother.

Now, my cousin is a single teen mom.

Before I go encourage and support pregnant women in their decisions wether they are too young or too old, its their choice.
